Our Medico-Legal Team has expertise in psychiatric assessment and treatment of clients with a wide range of forensic issues. Our team is able to prepare timely and comprehensive reports addressing civil and criminal issues. Our Psychiatrists are based in Western Sydney reducing the need for your clients to travel long distances to keep appointments. If required our Psychiatrists can see your clients in custody to assist the speedy finalisation of their Court matters.
Civil Legal Issues we are able to treat patients with work and motor accident related injuries. Our team are accredited with the Motor Accident Authority and Workcover (NSW). We can perform assessments of impairment using the Psychiatric Impairment Rating Scale (PIRS). We can consult on civil fitness issues as applies to testamentary capacity and financial management. We can assist in matters involving appeals to the Social Security Appeals Tribunal (SSAT) and Administrive Appeals Tribunal (AAT). We have extensive experience with civil Mental Health Review Tribunal matters
Criminal Legal Issues. Most of our Forensic Psychiatrist's hold appointments to Justice Health and as such have extensive experience in treatment and reporting in patients within the criminal jurisdiction. We are able to provide reports addressing s32/s33 matters in the Local Court. We have expertise in providing reports of addressing fitness, substantial impairment and the mental illness defence. We can provide evidence based reports addressing Risk Assessment for future offending using standardised assessment instruments such as the HCR-20 and PCL-R. We have experience in treatment and ongoing reporting in patient in the forensic Mental Health Review Tribunal. We have experience in managing special offender groups such as sex offenders, anti-androgen treatment, stalkers, arsonists and elderly cognitively impaired offenders

Dr Ted Cassidy
Dr Ted Cassidy is a Consultant Psychiatrist at The Hills Clinic. ed has appointments to Justice Health and Northside West Private Hospital. Ted is a Lecturer for the University of Western Sydney Undergraduate Medical Programme. Ted has completed Fellowship training in Medico-Legal Psychiatry and is a member of the RANZCP section of Forensic Psychiatry. Ted has an interest in mood and anxiety disorders, young people with psychosis and disorders of the elderly. Ted is active in preparing reports for civil and criminal jurisdictions. He has prepared reports for Justice Health, LegalAid, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, NSW Court Liaison service, Mental Health Review Tribunal (Civil and Forensic) and NSW Parole Board. Ted is an accredited Workcover and Motor Accidents Authority Assessor and has expertise in using the Psychiatric Impairment Rating Scale (PIRS). Ted has experience in addressing matters involving appeals to the SSAT and AAT. Ted has provided treatment and reports in relation to trauma related psychological injuries in Defence and Police Personnel, including reports to the Military Compensation and Rehabilitation Group, Department of Veteran's Affairs, NSW Police Association and NSW Police Service. Ted is happy to consult on civil medico-legal matters. Ted has experience in preparing reports addressing issues of s32/s33, fitness, substantial impairment and mental illness defence. Dr R Moorthy
Dr Moorthy is a senior psychiatrist from Sydney who has provided civil medicolegal reports relating to a wide range of civil matters. He has a long commitment to Western Sydney and a vast knowledge in the treatment of mental illness. He has had many appointments across his career in both public and private institutions. He now works at the Hills Clinic Castle Hill on Tuesdays in addition to Northside West Clinic. He is happy to be consulted in relation to preparation of reports.

Dr Sean Yenson
Dr Yenson consults on a range of general psychiatric conditions. His areas of interests include, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and psychosis. He is Senior Visting Psychiatrist at Sydney South West Area Health Service and Justice health. He divides his professional time between Campbelltown and the Hills area. He has experience in managing and reporting in both civil and criminal medicolegal issues. He is available for general psychiatric consultation at The Hills Clinic Castle Hill on Wednesdays and our Hornsby office on Mondays.

Dr. Leila Kavanagh
Dr. Kavanagh is a multi-lingual Psychiatrist who is fluent in English, French, Portuguese, Serbo-Croatian and Spanish. Dr Kavanagh's area of expertise is Forensic Psychiatry. She is a Consultant Psychiatrist for Justice Health and at The Hills Clinic. She has previously been Acting Superintendent of Long Bay Forensic Hospital. She is interested in Adult, Child and Adolescent, and Family Psychiatry and consults on a wide range of general psychiatric conditions including Psychosis, Affective Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, PTSD and ADHD. She is accredited in the assessment of permanent psychiatric impairment for MAA and WorkCover. She has experience in s32/33, fitness to stand trial, insanity, automatism, substantial impairment, specific and general intent. She has expertise in assessment of risk for violence and recidivism and is currently attached the Community Forensic Team within Justice Health. Dr Kavanagh provides reports and advice to private legal practitioners, Legal Aid, NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal, NSW Public Defenders Office, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, NSW Parole Board, NSW Crown Solicitors Office, NSW Drug Court. Dr Kavanagh is a Conjoint Lecturer in Psychiatry at the University of NSW and on the list of experts for the International Criminal Court (ICC).

 

 

 

 

 

Dr Usman Malik
Dr Malik consults on a large range of general psychiatric conditions, offering both psychotherapy and biological treatments. His areas of interest include; mood and anxiety disorders and early psychosis. Dr Malik works at the Hills Clinic on Thursdays and is a Consultant Psychiatrist with Justice Health where is responsible for treatment and assessment of patients within the Mental Health Screening Unit. In this role he provides assessments and treatment of serious offenders, including reports to the Mental Health Review Tribunal. Dr Malik has experience in treatment and reporting upon clients with civil medicolegal issues in particular Workcover and Motor Accidents Authority. Dr Malik is also fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
